I built my first Hackintosh in 2016, basically out of boredom and because my Macbook Pro 2013 was getting a bit old and I wanted a destop running macOS. I didn't even know about the compatibility of parts. I just cleared a weekend and went straight at it. It took me 2 days of trial and error but I finally got it to boot up.

My original parts list:

  • ASRock Fatal1ty Z97 Killer Intel Motherboard
  • Intel Core i7-4790K - Devil's Canyon Quad Core CPU
  • MSI Radeon R7 370 4GB Graphics Card
  • G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 16gb (2 x 8gb)
  • Thermaltake SP-750P Power Supply
  • NZXT Case

Over the years I swapped the graphics card from the R7 to an EVGA GeForce GTX 960 SSC FTW and finally ended up on a Saphire Rx 580 due to Nvidia graphics drivers issues on macOS.

The bootloader I originally used was Clover, but when I get enough time I will try to change it and use OpenCore instead. Since I have heard that it is far more reliable. Surprisingly I've had less issues updating the Hackintosh partition, compared to updating my Windows partition. I'm currently on macOS Catalina.
