I finally got a real server to play with. I bought a used Dell PowerEdge T620 Server. It came with dual Xeon 8 Core Processors, 32gb of ram, 4 600gb SAS drives and dual 750w power supplies.

I purchased this server to mess with virtualization environments. I wasn't really going to use it for anything serious so I decided to run the SAS drives in RAID 0 and I got 2 Samsung EVOs for my boot drive and ran them in RAID 0 as well. I found some cheap used Cisco ram on eBay so I upgraded the ram to 192gb.

This Dell T620 can currently run 8 hard drives and can either boot from a hard drive or from an internal flash drive. It did not come with an OS. They usually have some sort of Windows Server installed. I opted to install Ubuntu Server 20.04 LTS, since I'm pretty familiar with it, but I plan on eventually trying out VMWare ESXi.
