A 3.5 gallon tank looks cool, but it will only get you so far, literally. I had been searching for a 5 gallon softail tank for a while. All I could find were dented tanks and high prices. But a Low Rider S tank finally showed up on eBay for a decent price so I decided to pull the trigger.
2022 FXLRS Tank
The tank swap was rather easy. The tank itself is just a direct bolt on replacement. But I did need a new fuel pump assembly. You could re-use the stock FXBBS fuel pump assembly but you would not be able to use up all the fuel and it would defeat the purpose of the swap. The Low Rider S (FXLRS) fuel pump has an extra pickup for the other side of the tank. It also has a different fuel level sender unit, which you need in order to display the correct range.
